Bob Evans and Sheet Metal Union Local 33
This may be a little sensitive to some of our readers, but I have to get this out of my system. I am SO SICK and TIRED of unions whining. This latest "informational picket" that the Sheet Metal Union Local 33 is holding in front of Bob Evans is just ridiculous. While I understand the importance of why unions were first organized, "whining" about not getting the opportunity to bid on something is just a bit over the top. The biggest comment that was made that really struck a nerve was by the local 33 organizer Mr. Mains. He had the audacity to say that "...to not even get a shot isn't fair" and he continues by saying "that the way the economy, people needs jobs around here." WHAT!?!?! Welcome to business Mr. Mains.
Yes the economy is bad, yes people of the Ohio Valley need work, but to whine like a second grader that it is not fair is just ludicrous. I own a couple of very small businesses and I certainly do not complain and whine whenever I find out a contract was put out for bid and I was never contacted nor do I have a union to back me up on these type of matters. I make due in this economic downtime and keep pushing on until I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Time can be much better spent going after contracts and looking for new ones instead of sitting around complaining that it is not fair. Fairness is certainly one of the founding reasons for a union, but at the same time just because you are a union does not give you the right to cry foul just because you were not included.
So the Sheet Metal Union Local 33 was not included in the bidding process, I am sorry to hear it; put your big girl panties on and move on. If I were to ever need a building built in the event one of my small businesses took off I certainly would not even consider this group for hire. I am sure I could find suitable and qualified laborers to do the same job, at the same price but without the whiny attitude.
