Bellaire Shootings Reported Why?

Don't let the title confuse you, yes this type of incident SHOULD be reported on by the local Media such as WTRF, WTOV, local news papers and on radio news broadcasts in the area.

Gunshots were heard in Bellaire prompting the closure of Bellaire High School due to the fact, 18 Year old Ricardo Smith who attends Bellaire High School, was found to be the suspect. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Bellaire High School Reopened for class Friday after the Superintendent John Stonoski hired extra security to patrol Bellaire High school. (Side note here because I can not resist – do you think Lisa "The Snake" Carmichael would have done this for the safety of the children?)

This is all days old news, but the issue I have here is trying to figure out what the difference is between this incident and the Hit list discovered at Edison High School. When a parent called in to the school and found out the truth that indeed there was a hit list at Edison Local High School the parent promptly called WTOV9. Now mind you I am not real thrilled with WTOV in general, but this has nothing to do with how I feel about the station. This has to do with the fact they told this parent that they were taking the stance to not report on such incidents such as hit lists and bomb threats in schools because it could give children the wrong idea. HELLLOOOO!! Then why is it they will report on the Shootings in Bellaire that caused a school to shut down for security and safety reasons, why did they report on a school getting evacuated for what everybody knows was a bomb threat ? There was a bomb threat at Stanton Middle School earlier in the school year and NOTHING was reported on it at all. Sounds to me like blatant politics. My first blog on OhioValleyBlog.com revolved around this very issue. There was plenty going on in the Edison Local School District at that time including the doomed Levy that was on the Ballot and a looming Teacher Strike. SO it just seems SO ironic that what went on the Edison Local School District was overlooked and now with the Strike going on WTOV had no problem being there showing ONLY the school administrations side. Not once did they care to report on the parents and teachers and students, well maybe they did but it was over those groups "violent actions". To me WTOV lost the ability to report what really goes on and tend be biased on the things that really count. Is it directly the stations fault, probably not entirely? Tim McCoy I have know for a long time and have bucked heads with him on more than one occasions and have repeatedly argued over the WTOV website and how bad it is and how many false claims they make over it. Overall he is a descent network executive but unfortunately I s a puppet to COX Broadcasting. Like any good employee I am sure he gives in a great deal regardless of what he knows is right and wrong.

The end result here is that we do not get all the news and we do not get the whole truth. What this valley needs is a news station that reports the news as is and lets you, the resident of the Ohio Valley, decide for yourselves and not be persuaded by bias news casts. . Hmm that gives me an idea... more to come on that later.
