The Edison School District Strike is Over

Well Almost, the Teachers still have to vote and agree on the tentative contract and if all goes well they will back to school on Monday. Job well done!

It's about time, although I am very surprised. Maybe it's because Lisa Carmichael is not really going to MRDD and needs to protect her job now, or maybe the teachers are just tired of striking and need the money quickly for the fast approaching Holidays. It's apparent the Lisa Carmichael really doesn't care otherwise she would have never attempted to leave the negotiations 3 times. Luckily there was a higher power in the negotiations in the form of a judge who told her exactly how it was – SIT DOWN. No matter what the case is its good to see them come to an agreement to the best of their ability and end this strike.

Through the entire ordeal, the best and worst came out in teachers, subs, students and parents. Some of the events that transpired on both sides of the picket line were embarrassing. Do I understand their actions, certainly? I do, but nonetheless many people do not and those that committed some of these actions will be remembered for a long time to come because of them rather than being remembered for why it was done. I hope the school board has learned their lesson as well as Lisa Carmichael, I seriously doubt this is the case but it never hurts to hope. There are a few things that I truly believe should get done regardless of the fact that this strike is over. I still think that the Unfair Labor Practice Charge Filed Against Edison School Board should be followed through with and I still think the State of Ohio Board of Education should come in and take over the district. This incident may be over but lets not forget the levy did not pass. What underhanded tricks does Lisa Carmichael and the School Board have up there sleeve? Time will only tell, but I am sure we have not heard the last of this lair of snakes.

Times like these can be stressful for all and I am glad that we offered a place like OhioValleyBlog.com to help vent some of that stress and frustration. We have had some heated comments here and we have had supportive comments here but it was all in an effort to show the rest of the public the real story going on over what the biased local media was reporting.
